RAIN AND MUD..... AND LOTS OF IT!

October 19 - RACE DAY # 2
It’s been raining since before the race started, and today was no different! The rain is coming down relentlessly. Every single piece of clothing, bedding and shelter is wet. We are all walking around shivering from being cold because of the wet clothes. And with the rain comes… MUD! And lots of it! Ugh!
Andrew, Carlos and Patrick had a partcicularly hard day today! The course was relly muddy and the terrain very difficult to navigate because it was so slippery. They were out there for 11 hours!
We made some changes on the crew setup. Truck # 1, with Allen, Suzy and Joana  went ahead of them to set up camp quick in the hopes that we could get some of the clothing to dry. But it was very difficult to get the tents up, because of the rain and the wind blowing water everywhere! We spent a good part of the day just trying to stay out of the rain and getting everything ready for the riders and the rest of the crew when they got in.
Herman, Sarah and Spencer were the support group on the road. They had a very hard day trying to keep the riders safe as the night fell and the rain kept coming down!
Finally, after almost 12 hours on the road they made it to the camp. They were all exhausted, wet and cold to the bone! And 1 hour later they were all fed, clean (sort of) and tucked in their beds!
Tomorrow we get to do this all over again! There are talks among the organizers that there might be change on the course for safety purposes due to the rain and possible mudslides, we’ll have a final decision tomorrow morning.
We will not miss Koombooloomba!
Pictures to come.
